Zeb-un- Nessa Jamal (1926-1995), an outstanding lyricist of Bangladesh obtained Nagendranath gold medal from the Calcutta University in Bengali literature. She was a lyricist with a profound sense of beauty. This sense of beauty is reflected in the romantic song written by her.She proved that romantic songs can be written without going into direct wordings. She used to say that the magic in songs is its capacity of touching peoples heart.
Both radio and television has profound contribution in the making of unforgetable songs which has got sustainable impact on the heart of music lovers in Bangladesh and abroad.Specially the late 60's is referred as the golden era in the history of music in Bangladesh. Unfortunately radio and television had no mechanism to preserve those songs that time which are so historical now.

Back to TopMustafa Kamal Syed joined erstwhile Pakistan Television Corporation in Dhaka as a program Producer in the year 1967. During his long career in television he served the organisation in different capacities as Program Executive, Program Manager, General Manager, Director International Relations and lastly Deputy Director General of Programs. He retired from the national television, Bangladesh Television on 14 January 2004 and joined joined the private satellite channel NTV from its inception as the Chief of Programs. He is also an established voice caster for national radio and television and director of enormous radio and television plays some of which having national and international awards. He is also a drama artist of the national radio.

Back to TopSyed Zillur Rahman was educated in the premier college of Asia - the Presidency College Calcutta and obtained Master of Arts (History) degree from the Calcutta University, by standing second in order of merit. Joined Bengal Civil Service in 1943, as Deputy Magistrate and later switched on to All India Radio (War-time Broadcasting Station in Dhaka), in 1946, which was re-named to Radio Pakistan after partition of India on August 14, 1947. Served broadcasting both in East and West Pakistan for 27 years, as Regional Director (including national television for a couple of years). In between, went on deputation to Pakistan Council for National Integration as the Executive Director and headed 10 council centers in East and West Pakistan. For his outstanding services on electronic media in the Eastern wing during the Indo-Pakistan war in 1965 was given national award.
After the emergence of Bangladesh , as a sovereign, independent State, was appointed as Director General of National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, with branches in all the 64 districts of the country. Retired from service in 1982, and joined the oldest and the largest circulated English daily - The Bangladesh Observer as Senior Editor. Popular as a political analyst for his weekly column titled "Men and Matters" - based on topical subjects of the week on national and international affairs which is published in The Bangladesh Observer every Saturday. Served also as communication consultant of the leading NGO in Dhaka "Save the Children (USA) for 10 years. After a long successful career, Mr. Rahman passed away on 14th May 2000 in Bangkok, Thailand after prolonged illness, shortly after the death of his wife, Amatul Umda Begum.

Among the artists who had contributed largely to make the period most glorious, the name of the most modest and sophisticated singer Anjuman Ara Begum comes in the top.
Anjuman Ara Begum comes from a very respectable and educated family. She obtained her masters and bachelors degree in Sociology from the University of Dhaka. She was the lady with a golden voice.She rose to popularity around the early 60's. Whether it was radio, television or gramophone records being played for the listeners, her sweet, melodious and enchanting voice was audible far and wide. There was a unique quality to her voice. The listeners were captivated by the feeling that she put into singing. As an artiste she was always devoted to her profession. She was a play back singer in the feature films produced that time. Unfortunately she could never take any initiative to make a CD with her hit and popular song that are to be ever remembered.

Anjuman Ara Begum is no more with us. She lives on in the memories of her numerous fans. Being a niece of Anjuman Ara Begum and also as a vocal singer, contributing in the arena of music in Bangladesh for more than forty years. As I was the eldest of all her niece, I was very near and dear to her and can feel her love and attachment for music.
Anjuman Ara Begum who has credit of hundreds of popular songs was awarded "Ekusher Padak "in the year 2005 in recognition to her contribution to music.

Dr Kasiruddin Talukder was a renowned physician and martyred intellectual of the Bogra city. His dispensary at the Thana Road, Bogra was
well known to the general public. He was arrested and killed by the Pakistan army during the liberation war in 1971. The ostensible reason
for this drastic end was his role in providing medical aid and giving shelter to the freedom fighters.
