Profile
Sixties of the Twentieth century was the golden decade for Bengali music and literature. With the introduction of Television in this part of the world in mid sixties music got a real boost and some new singers and music directors made their way in our cultural arena.
One such luminary to occupy the center stage at that stage was Zeenat Rehana, a crooner with a golden voice.
A progeny of a cultural family, Zeenat Rehana had her life cut out because of her mother Zebunnessa Jamal, an outstanding lyricist whose golden pen created a number of songs that still haunt the music lovers of the country. Daughter of such a literary personality, Zeenat had her personal talent sharpened by her mother’s gift of Muse.
Zeenat when first wielded her voice on the microphone; listeners became aware of the advent of a gifted artiste, not frequently seen.
Zeenat Rehana during her long career as a crooner sang quiet a number of songs which are on the lips of the music lovers.
Zeenat Rehana had never to look back. Her induction to a family by marriage , where cultural activities were which cultural activities thrived, augured well for her as well as ours. Like some with promise, she was not lost in the wilderness of family jinx.
She is not only a singer who sings only. She takes her audience in ecstatic journey, when she sings.
